Local History

The Local History collection consists of various items collected over many years:

Books – you can borrow some books, however others are for library use only. Maps and plans of old Peterborough, local newspapers, magazines and newsletters. Also engravings, lithographs and photographs.

Can’t make it to the library? Let us do your research for you!

Anyone can come in to read some of Peterborough’s historic newspapers. We hold many of them on microfilm and staff are always happy to help you use them. Our most used newspapers include:

  • The Peterborough Advertiser (1854-1989)
  • The Peterborough Citizen (1903-1946)
  • Peterborough Evening News (1896, 1899-1909, 1911)
  • Peterborough Evening Telegraph (1960-present)
  • Peterborough Express (1884-1917)
  • Peterborough Standard (1872-1989)
