Vision for Reading

Vision for Reading

A new approach has launched in Peterborough with an aim to ensure that every child in the city can read well and enjoys it. This vision commits the city to improving reading in a new and exciting way, not only strengthening the resources of the city’s schools and teachers but establishing reading as a priority for every service, business and community agency committed to Peterborough’s future.

Volunteer to be a Reading Buddy

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our successful Reading Buddy scheme.

Can you commit to an hour a week? Would you enjoy sharing books with children in a one-to-one situation?

Reading Buddies will be trained to:

  • Read with a child regularly
  • Share and talk about books (in English or your home language)
  • Expand a child’s reading experiences
  • Support a child to develop their reading skills

If you are interested please contact Peterborough City Council, email: or phone 01733 863794

Peterborough Reads 900

Throughout 2018, as part of the Peterborough Celebrates 900 campaign, we collected 900 book recommendations from the people of Peterborough.

We’ve collated all those recommended titles to find the 50 most recommended adult reads and the 50 most recommended children's books.

How many of Peterborough’s favourite books have you read?

Have a look to see what other people in Peterbrough have read and loved!
