After School Club: Teacher's Exhibition

After School Club: Teacher's Exhibition

Are you an art teacher or art technician who struggles to find time for your own practice?

Are you looking for something to drive you, something to work towards with others in a similar position?

Metal is working in partnership with Vivacity to bring you a special exhibition of work by Peterborough’s extraordinary art teachers. Teachers of Peterborough dedicate an enormous amount of time to inspiring our future generation.

This exhibition is an opportunity for them to focus on, and show off, their own talents. The exhibition will run for 2 weeks in the Vivacity pop-up shop in Queensgate, which overlooks Cathedral Sq, coinciding with Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery’s Open Exhibition 2019.

The exhibition will take place from Sat 13 Apr to Sun 27 Apr 2019, 12 – 5pm

A special private view will take place on Sat 13 Apr from 12 – 2pm

Am I eligible for this exhibition?

  • This exhibition is open to all art teachers, art technicians or those who studied art but now teach other subjects.

  • You must live or teach within the PE Postcode

  • You must be able to mount / frame / present your work for the exhibition – guidance will be on the entry form.

How to take part in the exhibition

You can register your interest in AFTER SCHOOL CLUB by submitting your details into the expression of interest form HERE. Expression of interest must be completed by Thu 17 Jan 2019.

Entry forms will be available in Jan which will detail further guidance for submission. This form will ask more details about the work you intend to submit.

The deadline for entry form submissions will be Fri 8 Mar. We will send you entry forms via email and / or direct you to locations where you can pick them up.

Work for the exhibition will need to be taken to Metal (Chauffeurs Cottage, 1 St Peters Rd, Peterborough, PE1 1YX) on Thu 4 or Fri 5 Apr (inc evenings).

  • Work must be recent and / or newly created for the exhibition

  • Entries are accepted in the form of painting, drawing, photography, prints, sculpture, film and applied arts. Installation and performance art will be considered but will depend on available exhibition space. Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 pieces of work.

  • Maximum sizes of work(s): 2D art – 1m x 1m inc frame. 3D art / sculpture / floor based work: 1m x 1m x 1m (W x D x H)

  • The exhibition will be curated by Sarah Haythornthwaite (Metal) and Sheena Carman (Vivacity). We will endeavour to exhibit all the work submitted. Due to limited exhibition space, we may need to select pieces that allow us to exhibit the widest representation of the work.

Getting yourself going:

If you are not practising, haven’t produced work for a while or are seeking inspiration then we have a few things that might help you along the way. In the lead up to the exhibition there will be 3 get-togethers for teachers interested in submitting work for this exhibition. This will be an opportunity to meet each other, share challenges, get advice on work / processes and also consider how to present your work for the exhibition. The dates are:

  • Wed 23 Jan, 6 - 7.30pm

  • Thu 21 Feb, 6 – 7.30pm

  • Tue 12 Mar, 6 – 7.30pm

All sessions will be held at Metal, Chauffeurs Cottage, 1 St Peters Rd, Peterborough, PE1 1YX

Metal are also hosting a series of public masterclasses at Chauffeurs Cottage. These cost £20 per head and need to be booked in advance. More details can be found on Metal’s website at
