About

The Open Exhibition is an open to all visual art competition. It offers artists the opportunity to exhibit as part of a professionally curated and public-facing show, taking place over all three gallery spaces of Vivacity’s Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. We look to create a dynamic show that serves as a platform in recognising and promoting, showcasing and rewarding the best selection of visual art from across the UK. Please note the submission process has changed. Entry Forms AND payment should be submitted by the entry deadline on the 22 February 2019.

Entries are accepted in the form of painting, drawing, photography, prints, sculpture and applied arts. Installation and performance art will be considered, but will depend on available gallery space. Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 works.

Maximum sizes of work(s)

For all 2D art: 2m x 2m incl. frame

For all 3D art, sculpture and floor based work: 2.5m x 2.5m x 2.5m (W x D x H)
Work must deconstruct into pieces no larger than 1.1m (W) x 2m (H)

Entry Guidelines

CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY

Entries are accepted in the form of painting, drawing, photography, prints, sculpture and applied arts. Installation and performance art will be considered, but will depend on available gallery space.

Maximum sizes of work(s) For all 2D art: 2m x 2m incl. frame

For all 3D art, sculpture and floor based work: 2.5m x 2.5m x 2.5m (W x D x H)
Artwork must be able to deconstruct into sections no larger than 2m x 1.1m

• Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 works

• £7 entrant fee per work submitted

• Entrant fees are non-refundable

• Applications will not be accepted unless payment has been made

• Entry Form AND payment is to be sent to Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery by the 22 Feb 2019 otherwise applications will not be accepted

 

ENTRY FEE PAYMENT AND ENTRY FORM SUBMISSION

Once Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery have received your completed entry form, your entry will be processed. The label(s) will be supplied when artists deliver their work to Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. Labels are adhesive and must then be either stuck or fixed to the back/underside of the work(s). The work(s) must then be delivered to Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery on the submission date given.

 

SUBMISSION CONDITIONS & PROCESS

ALL hanging fixtures MUST be removed (including D rings, screw eyes, mirror plates or projections) prior to submitting the works. Only fixings that are recessed or integral must remain, in which case, they should be taped over to avoid damage to other works.

Hanging fixtures for selected works will be supplied by Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery. Art works, with label(s) attached, must be submitted to Peterborough Museum and Art Gallery on the dates and times given. Upon submission you will be given a numbered receipt for your entered work(s). This receipt must be retained as proof of delivery and produced upon collection of the work.

The judge’s decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. All works will be judged anonymously All artists, both unsuccessful and successful, will be notified of the judging results by either phone or email by 13 March. Unsuccessful artists must be available to collect their work on 16 & 17 March, between 12-3pm.

Please note, this is a competitive show and due to limited gallery space we cannot guarantee that all submitted work will be selected for exhibition.

For large or fragile works, delivery may be made after selection, on 16 & 17 March. Please provide up to 6 high quality photographs, which can be submitted with the entry form and payment via post, or on work submission dates. Please ensure your name and the work’s details (title, medium) are on the reverse of each photograph.

Video and performance art must be supplied in DVD format, playable on a standard DVD player. Judges may wish to show a selection of work on one screen. If you require a solo presentation, you must supply your own viewing equipment, to be kept at the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

 

SALE OF WORK

Artists selected for exhibition have the opportunity to sell their works (works that are for sale MUST be stated on entry form). All works sold are subject to 30% commission + VAT. This will be added on top of the sale price stated on your entry form. Works sold during the exhibition will not be available until after the exhibition has finished.

 

ELIGIBILITY

The competition is open to artists aged 18 and over on the date of submission. All work entered must have been completed in the last 2 years.
