We are unable to offer Story Starters currently.
By learning about the art of telling and creating stories, children learn new vocabulary, improve their speaking and listening skills, spark their imaginations and develop their understanding of story structure, character and setting. Getting excited about stories helps students develop skills that benefit both their oracy and their reading and writing.
Sessions involve listening to stories plus story-making and performance exercises. Children get the opportunity to work together in groups as well as think about ideas and possibilities independently. Sessions include a creative craft activity to make props that can be used to encourage further exploration and retelling of the stories.Books and resources from the library collection are used to spark ideas and make connections between creating stories and reading for pleasure.
Story Starters sessions available are:
Traditional Tales (KS1)
Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream (KS2 and 3)
Pirates (KS1 and 2)
These sessions are 2 hours in length.
